Philippines, Chapter I

So here's the first story of my trip. The trip was good except my luggage was missing for a week. Got there on Monday and didn't get my luggage until Saturday. What happened? Well....I still need to write Continental Airlines, but essentially it is their fault.

The dumb ass counter guy, whose name I did not get, but I would certainly remember his face, routed our luggage on different flight on a totally different airline. See our trip started in Houston from Intercontinental Airport. From there we took Continental Airlines to LA, then on China Airlines to Taipei and then to Manila. The guy at the counter printed up the baggage claim tags to go from IAH to LAX on Continental Airlines, then to Hong Kong and to Manila...on a totally different airline, Cathay Pacific. In this day and age of airport security, obviously the luggage did not match anyone on that flight so it was left in LA. Since the international airports are not as well equipped computer wise, they had no clue where our luggage was and couldn't even find it. They had to teletext IAH, LAX, Taipei, and Hong Kong, then Continental Airlines, China Airlines, and Cathay Pacific. This process took a week until they finally found our luggage and was able to call us with the good news that our luggage was at the Manila Airport.

We had to go to the airport a couple of times. Would rather speak with these people one on one, but the people at the baggage claim were no help. While "waiting for a flight to come in" they were SLEEPING ON THE JOB!!! I'm sorry, at least go to a back room if you want to sleep, but if you are working at the airport, you should not have four employees with their heads down snoozing!!! No wonder the country isn't getting any travellers, people at the airports can't even stay awake 8 hours a day.

Anyway, the baggage claim people said they would call us with updates on our luggage but they never did. However, Andrew and Christine at China Airlines were very helpful and persistent on finding our luggage. Thanks to them for all their work.

Regardless, though, we still had to go to the That doesn't make up for the black socks I had to wear with my gym shoes though =).

I will write more about my trip and about the AWESOME video release party for wakingNorman's "Stuck in a Stare" that I came back for...just in time. But for now I am very tired and need rest.

Which Rose is Your Soul Bound To?

glass
Your soul is bound to the Glass Rose: The
Fragile.

"My heart lies somewhere between perfection
and dust. And while my soul is a sight to
behold, I shatter at the blink of an
eye."

The Glass Rose is associated with perfection,
beauty, and frailty. It is governed by the
goddess Aphrodite and its sign is the Looking
Glass, or Tenuous Love.

As a Glass Rose, you have a beautiful soul and
naturally attract people to you. Love comes
naturally to you, but it hardly ever lasts.
Though you embody the perfect form of love,
your own faults are your own undoing.

Friday Five

Wow...it's been a while since I've posted here. I have been sooooo busy these past couple of weeks I don't know which way is up. I was in Chicago this past weekend for a wedding (Congrats Leslie and Bill!!!), had a 10-page paper due for a class, had to send out invites for the band's video release party, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. This coming week, I have a final exam for my Contemporary Issues class (no worries there), I have a final project for my Facilities classes (I am doing the powerpoint, but two other group members are presenting), have to design a DVD insert for the band, sort through clothes to give away, pack...and off to the Philippines next weekend for two weeks. I will be back in time (knock on wood) for wakingNorman's video release. Oh and I need to get my oil changed in my car, do laundry, sort through Youth Summit pictures, and pay some bills before I leave. As much as I want to take this laptop on my trip, I know it's probably NOT a good idea. ARGH!!!! One thing though....it will be a RELAXING two weeks...I hope!

Anyway, I got this week's Friday Five and decided to check out what the questions were. I thought they were interesting so I figured time to post.

1. Using one adjective, describe your current living space. MESSY!!!!

2. Using two adjectives, describe your current employer. Lenient, flexible.

3. Using three adjectives, describe your favorite hobby/pasttime. fun, relaxing, and interesting

4. Using four adjectives, describe your typical day. hectic, cluttered, busy, and spontaneous

5. Using five adjectives, describe your ideal life. happy, loving, caring, rich, and fulfilling

By the way....did anyone see Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight? It's amazing how he could have three musicians on and only two actually performed. I think the show is FUNNY!!!

Oh my!!! We are getting Antoine Walker from Boston!!!! How about that line-up! Finley, Nash, Nowitzki, Jamison, and Walker! Unfortunately we traded LaFrentz....why can't we sneak Bradley into any of our trades?!?!?!?! That's who we need to get rid of. Anyway, just thought I'd give a Mavs update. I still love the CUBBIES

I just created this awesome post and can't seem to find where it has been saved. ARGH!!! Bascially I still love the Cubs and as much as it pains all the Cub fans everywhere, we must follow the age old addage..."Next Year." But this year it is more painful than ever to say that. As I had a full post working, I was watching ABCNews. They just showed snippits of news from the ABC Chicago affiliate and I LOVE the city of Chicago and their fans. We believe and will always believe. It is just not our time. I didn't cry at the bar tonight, but believe me, as I watch the news and listen to the reporters put comments to the images that I only saw up on the TV screen, I tear up. Not only does a city feel pain, but a nation does too. I feel sorry for MLB. They could have had the best ratings in baseball EVER with the Cubs in the World Series, but now must fall back on the poor fishies. I want to post more, but it is 3:30am and I am falling asleep as I type.

However, before I go to bed. PLEASE do not blame the poor Cub fan that made the mistake of not letting Alou make the catch. Shame on the media for saying his name, giving out his info, showing where he lives and showing where he works. That DID NOT cost the Cubs the possible World Series appearance. DO NOT make him the scapegoat for a bunch of flubs made by the men on the field. The poor guy issued an apology to all of Chicago. Buddy....it is not your fault!!!! That makes me cry even more.

THINGS I'VE LEARNED

Going through my inbox and cleaning it out I came across this message sent to me from my best friend Joanne over three years ago...yes I still have messages from three years ago. But it's one of those messages that never gets old.

1. I've learned - that you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.

2. I've learned - that it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.

3. I've learned - that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

4. I've learned - that you can keep going long after you can't.

5. I've learned - that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

6. I've learned - that either you control your attitude or it controls you.

7. I've learned - that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades and there had better be something else to take its place.

8. I've learned - that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

9. I've learned - that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

10. I've learned - that my best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time.

11. I've learned - that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down will be the ones to help you get back up.

12. I've learned - that sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

13. I've learned - that true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. Same goes for true love.

14. I've learned - that just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.

15. I've learned - that maturity has more to do with the types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.

16. I've learned - that no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

17. I've learned - that it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.

18. I've learned - that no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn't stop for your grief.

19. I've learned - that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

20. I've learned - that just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other. And just because they don't argue, It doesn't mean they do.

21. I've learned - that we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

22. I've learned - that you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.

23. I've learned - that two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

24. I've learned - that your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don't even know you.

25. I've learned - that even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you, you will find the strength to help.

26. I've learned - that credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

27. I've learned - that the people you care about most in life are taken away from you too soon.

Fate, Goats, and the Bambino

Game 7 it will have to be.

Is fate and the holder of the curses tempting Cubbie and Red Sox fans? Would they be cruel enough to get the Cubs and Red Sox this far and yank it away? Honestly...it's all in the hands of the players.

It was not meant to be for the Cubbies last night, but tonight Kerry Wood will pitch us to the promise land. It looked like the Cubs and Mark Prior were going to do it last night, but in the Eighth inning it went downhill. I do not blame the poor fan who has a target on his back. God bless the poor fan. Yes, at the time, every Chicago fan probably wanted to jump him, but he didn't do anything wrong...he just wanted a souviner. Even the players feel sorry for the guy. The poor thing is also a focus on the ABC news update later this evening. But what about Alex Gonzalez....a grounder he's picked up a jillion times? It just wasn't meant to be last night and it all unfortunately comes down to a game 7. I will be in class, but as soon as we get out of there, I will be glued to a TV.

CO CUBBIES...I BELIEVE!!!!

Cubs win Game 3!!!

What a way to start a weekend at home! When I got off the plane and was waiting outside for my mom to pick me up...it was freezing....okay not freezing, but it was COLD! That's okay because it's Chicago in October and the day only got better. For lunch I had good ole Jimmy John's Subs and for dinner, my favorite Italian restaurant ever....Armando's. They have the best veal parmagiana. Dinner was AWESOME. Then at home, I watch the Cubbie game, it starts late because of the rain, but nothing is going to hold these guys back. Did anyone see the game...AMAZING pitching by Mark Prior.

Nothin' like a good ole Cubbie win to get the city all warm and fuzzy.

What a HOTTIE!!!!

"Cubs sophomore sensation Mark Prior was sensational in Game 3, outdueling Greg Maddux as the Cubs defeated the Braves, 3-1, to move within one game of reaching the NLCS."

"Prior shuts down Braves; Cubs win"
"Debutiful: Prior's first playoff start amazes"

Mark Prior went a complete game! He is such an awesome player and not to mention CUTE!

On of the best moves made....getting good ole Dusty Baker.

Ryne Sandburg sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

Can the Cubbies do it tomorrow afternoon??? It's all on Clement. But if he does just as well as Kerry Wood and Mark Prior, I think it's in the bag. GO CUBS!!!!

NOT the last man standing

Damn Packers! I can't believe they lost to Arizona! I knew I should have gone with the Vikings again. My other pick would have been Tampa Bay. Now in week 3, I am out of BOTH Last Man Standing pools...ARGH!!!! There is a reason I'm not a Green Bay fan and this just reinforces it more. Luckily, my Bears play them in the new Soldier Field, the first home game. Hope GB can screw it up again! GO BEARS!

Right-brained, Left-brained

Rosie, you are one of those rare individuals who are perfectly "balanced" in both your hemispheric tendencies and your sensory learning preferences. However, there is both good news and bad news.

A problem with hemispheric balance is that you will tend to feel more conflict than someone who has a clearly established dominance. At times the conflict will be between what you feel and what you think but will also involve how you attack problems and how you perceive information. Details which will seem important to the right hemis- phere will be discounted by the left and vice versa, which can present a hindrance to learning efficiently.

In the same vein, you may have a problem with organization. You might organize your time and/or space only to feel the need to reorganize five to ten weeks later.

On the positive side, you bring resources to problem-solving that others may not have. You can perceive the "big picture" and the essential details simultaneously and maintain the cognitive perspective required. You possess sufficient verbal skills to translate your intuition into a form which can be understood by others while still being able to access ideas and concepts which do not lend themselves to language.

Your balanced nature might lead you to second-guess yourself in artistic endeavors, losing some of the fluidity, spontaneity and creativity that otherwise would be yours.

With your balanced sensory styles, you process data alternately, at times visually and other times auditorially. This usage of separate memories may cause you to require more time to integrate information or re-access it. When presented with situations which force purely visual or purely auditory learning, increased anxiety is likely and your learning efficiency will decrease.

Your greatest benefit is that you can succeed in multiple fields due to the great plasticity and flexibility you possess.

Friday Five

Happy Birthday Friday Five!!

1. Who is your favorite singer/musician? Why? Fave musicians are the five guys of wakingNorman. They are an up and coming acoustic rock band from the Dallas area.

2. What one singer/musician can you not stand? Why? Anything tooooo heavy metal, anything tooooo country and anything toooooo ghetto/gangsta rap. I appreciate the need for those types of music, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

3. If your favorite singer wasn't in the music business, do you think you would still like him/her as a person? Yes, the five guys are the sweetest guys I know (the playas they are). Besides I work for them and they are great to work with.

4. Have you been to any concerts? If yes, who put on the best show? YES!!! From *NSYNC to Dave Matthews Band. The best shows I've been to (and I make it plural because there is definitely more than one)...NSYNC, Barenaked Ladies, Depeche Mode, and Duran Duran.

5. What are your thoughts on downloading free music online vs. purchasing albums? Do you feel the RIAA is right in its pursuit to stop people from dowloading free music? Now being part of the music business, I understand the seriousness of the situation. When you think about it, about approximately 60 million people "download" free music (stealing) and if those people were to purchase 1 CD at (and I realize this is low) $10, that's a loss of $600 million dollars. And you wonder why the RIAA is pissed? Uh, you do the math!!!

Last Man Standing Week 2

I know it's early in the week, but as it stands right now, I think I want to go with Oakland. Any thoughts?

Being Happy

Got this email from my friend Lillian. It ended with the following:

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

Simple, but at times difficult. How do you live your life? Time to follow the five simple rules. Maybe we can all be happy and make the world a somewhat better place.

Last Man Standing

The pot is approximately $7000. It cost $21. 21 freaking dollars down the drain because Miami couldn't beat Houston!!!! I went out with about 200 other people. If the games continue like this week, then the last man standing will be standing by the fourth week. Luckily on my shared team I chose Denver. Gotta pick a winner for next week. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

Off to Chicago

Well tomorrow I'm off to Chicago for what will be an awesome and cool(literally) weekend at home. I wish I could go on the road trip with the band this weekend, but there's nothing like home SWEET home.

Friday I hope to see Candy and her girls, then later that night party with my boy Jack(visiting up from Dallas also) and show him what Chicago is about!!! =) How fun is that going to be?!?!??! Then Saturday possibly be the buffer for my bestest friend's boyfriend and her family. Sunday, will be at Leslie and Bill's shower(which I still need to get a present for...ugh!) and somewhere in between, maybe Monday or Tuesday, do homework for my Wednesday class. Not really pressing, but something that needs to be done...maybe I'll do it on the plane tomorrow.

Not a groupie?

The word "groupie" has such a negative connotation so I decided to look it up on dictionary.com.
Here is the official definition:

group·ie ( P ) Pronunciation Key (grp)
n. Slang
1. A fan, especially a young woman, who follows a rock group around on tours.
2. An enthusiastic supporter or follower: a ballet groupie; a fashion groupie.

Why, may you ask, did I bother looking the definition up? Well, everytime I promote wakingNorman, I am asked if I am a groupie. I was called a groupie last night...AGAIN!!!! It bothers me because "groupie" indicates that you hang with the band and try to get some. That is not what I am about. I was asked to help out with marketing communications, ie. getting flyers and posters, and the word out about when and where the guys are playing. No, I am not getting paid, but it's just a matter of time. I want to help out as much as I can. I think this group is amazing and the world will soon know. However, reading the definition...then yes, I am a groupie and proud to be one! =)

Haven't taken a quiz in a while so....What Romance Movie Best Represents Your Love Life?

casablanca
"You must remember this, a kiss is still a
kiss". Your romance is Casablanca. A
classic story of love in trying times, chock
full of both cynicism and hope. You obviously
believe in true love, but you're also
constantly aware of practicality and societal
expectations. That's not always fun, but at
least it's realistic. Try not to let the Nazis
get you down too much.

I'm with the Band

So I was reviewing my past posts and noticed that I haven't posted how I got involved with wakingNorman. So here's the abbreviated story. I have been a fan for about 2 1/2 years now. The first time I saw them at the Beggar Club and Daniel Hart pulled out his violin and Troy belted "Losing" I knew these guys had talent and potential. I even had a chance to see them when they were in Chicago. They have been doing the N.Dallas club scene since then. They finally got some serious backers and a group of people that want to help and see them succeed. They needed a person to do "marketing communications" basically get the word out where the guys are playing and that's where I come in. Troy sent me an email and asked to give him a call. They thought of me when thinking about promotions. I am honored and happy to be part of something that is on the rise. Please check out the link and if you like the music...BUY, BUY, BUY!!!

What are the Mavs thinking??!?!?!?!

First all the possible GOOD trades fall through. Then they go and trade VanExel?!?!? If it wasn't for him, the Mavs wouldn't have gotten as far as they did last season. ARGH!!!! The Mavs are going to fall back to the OK team and not a good team. Besides, the least they could have done was insert Bradley into the trade...GET RID OF HIM!!!!!!! I'm pretty worried about this coming season. With the Lakers getting Payton and Malone, they pretty much have the championship locked up, but the Mavs could have been contenders. I guess they'll be saying at the beginning of the season..."Next year." If not, I will.

Back to the old skool

I am watching MTV right now and they are doing a piece on the Queen of Hip-Hop....Mary J. Blige. Ahhh yes, the old skool..."REAL LOVE". Need to find "What's the 411?" and listen to it again.

And now the video for "Boys of Summer" redone by the Ataris...I love the Don Henley version, but this one (literally) ROCKS!!!

Off to LA

Well, my boys and girls are off to LA to film a music video. Who you may ask???!?!? Well, if you haven't checked them out yet...they are wakingNorman. They are leaving in a few hours...they should all be asleep right now as I post. Anyway, the boys are filming a video for "Stuck in a Stare" and it will be a big hit. For anyone that has had a dream and a love and has had to make a serious decision on which path to follow...this song will definitely have meaning for you. Who are the girls mentioned in my opening sentence...those would be the support cast...booking and merchandising (Beth and MA). I wish I could go!!!! I am sooooo there for the next LA trip! Leno maybe? If I had known about it a while ago and had the opportunity to save money, I would sooooo be there!!! I know they will have a good time and wish them nothing but F-U-N. Again, if you have had a chance to check them out and take a listen....go to the website NOW!!!!

Friday Five

1. What's the last place you traveled to, outside your own home state/country? My "home" state is Illinois, but my "current home" is Texas. So outside of my home state would be Florida(Christmas 2002) and outside of my home country would be the Philippines(1994).

2. What's the most bizarre/unusual thing that's ever happened to you while traveling? This is pretty unusual, but when I was travelling to the Philippines, I noticed a guy who looked familiar. I thought he went to my HS. (By now I was a sophomore in College). Anyway, I happened to have my video camera and he was sitting a couple of rows in front of me. He happened to have his arm over the chair next to him revealing a class ring. When I zoomed in, it was the EXACT same ring that all Lane Tech grads receive. Never ended up talking to the kid, but all in all remembered...WHEREVER YOU GO, WHATEVER YOU DO, REMEMBER THE HONOR OF LANE!!!

3. If you could take off to anywhere, money and time being no object, where would you go? Europe, I would backpack around Europe, especially Italy.

4. Do you prefer traveling by plane, train or car? Initally plane, but once I am somewhere a ROAD TRIP is always FUN!!!!

5. What's the next place on your list to visit? Realistically Chicago, but if I had a chance to go somewhere other than Chicago, I would love to go back to NYC. Internationally (i.e. outside mainland US), Puerto Rico!!

One Busy Week

Well, it's been a hell of a week. I had two finals...Strategic Management and Financial Management. They both went...OKAY. Not great, just okay. I really wasn't into studying as much as I should have. Why you may ask? Well, I am the newly appointed Marketing Communication Rep for wakingNorman. I am very excited about the position. These guys are headed upward and I am totally ready for the ride. I was flattered when Troy, the lead singer, told me that they thought of me when they were thinking of a marketing person. I just think I post waaaay to much in the discussion group that they figured I had all the time in the world. Well, I kinda do...at least for the next three weeks. I also had an interview this morning for an internship opportunity with the Dallas Mavericks. I hope I get the position. All I know is, this fall, I will be one busy bee. Anyway, this is brief because I've got other things to do. Oh I also forgot to mention, I also have to plan for a shower for my friend Leslie. AHHHHHH!!!!!

Procrastinating

Well, I should be doing homework and studying for my exam, but as usual I am procrastinating on this computer of mine. Last night I went to see wakingNorman for the third time in one week. They played with two other acts. I missed the first one, but I saw him walking around and WHAT A HOTTIE!!!! I wish I had gotten there in time to hear Michael Celedon. Maybe next time. Got a chance to see Monkeyshyne though and they were awesome. But not as good as my boys. Please check out wakingNorman and sample what they are about. I know you'll fall in love.

Sweet Home Chicago

What can I say? It's good to be home. I got here on Friday. It's been AWESOME so far. The weather has been beautiful. The food MMMMMM...GOOD!!!! The family and friends...priceless. Danyetta's wedding yesterday was beautiful. I've never seen her so happy. Of course, her bridesmaids wore pink. Her parents looked great. Tracy was one of her bridesmaid and she looked good too. Tracy's little boy Josh was ADORABLE. Candy was my date. Lots of fun.

Today, I'm going to Leslie's to meet the other bridesmaids. She is making lunch. However, I ate already but not to worry, I can eat more. Later I'm going to meet up with Joanne again. Maybe we'll go see "Legally Blonde II." Gotta call some other friends later too.

Anyway, I need to do research for a paper due Thursday. Will write more later.

What's does your name mean?

Stole this from Yano.

This is what my full name means:
Your name of Rosemarie has made you systematic and practical in all you do. You enjoy the feeling of accomplishment from working diligently at a task. Particular about your material possessions, you keep everything you own in a good state of repair, and you budget your personal finances very carefully. You are clever in mathematics and have great patience with work of a detailed nature, such as bookkeeping or accounting. Systematic and practical in all you do, you enjoy the feeling of accomplishment from working diligently at a task. You budget your personal finances very carefully. Particular about your material possessions, you keep everything you own in a good state of repair. This name limits imagination, flexibility, responsiveness, and spontaneity in your nature. It also limits your sense of humour and any real empathy of the problems of others. Those close to you do not appreciate that you may forget the thoughtful expressions of affection toward them. Your very practical nature does not allow you the appreciation you might have for life's more aesthetic values as it keeps your mind mostly concerned with facts and figures. Weaknesses in the health could affect the intestinal tract with constipation and related difficulties such as rheumatism or arthritis.

Here's what Rosie means:
Your first name of Rosie has given you a sociable, kind, and thoughtful nature. Your sensitivity and sympathy to the needs of people causes difficulty when you need to be individual and maintain control over your feelings. You can be easily hurt and emotionally upset and, because you become so closely involved with people, you can be unduly influenced by them, sometimes against your better judgment. You are inclined to put things off until forced to take action. You accomplish more working with people who encourage and inspire you, and particularly those who can give you confidence by laying out a step-by-step pattern for you. You do not take life too seriously, because you tend to live for the day. It is not typical of you to plan ahead, to think of the consequences of your actions, and to set meaningful objectives in your life. You are more likely to drift into experiences, benefitting from social contact and the attractiveness of your personality. You have felt insecure in learning and adapting to new things, and have struggled with lack of concentration and persistence to make a success of your efforts. In the health, you would experience skin conditions because of a rich diet, and also fluid problems affecting the glandular system and kidneys.

Ah-ha my blogger has appeared again!
Where is my blogger???

Happy 4th of July

This will actually post on the 5th of July, but to meet it's still the 4th. Happy 227th Birthday America!!! Hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th. My fourth was okay. Nothing too exciting. Just went over to a friend's house for "free" food. Sat at home and watched fireworks on TV. Cried a little because I realized what a total LOSER I am. I was a little sad because I didn't watch fireworks live, but then again, had no one special to watch them with. Figured even if my boyfriend was here, we probably would have gotten into an argument and I would still be doing the same thing, playing computer games and watching 20/20 while flipping to the Macy's Fourth special. Could have gone with co-workers, but again, everyone would have been paired up and I alone. Anyway, later today (the 5th) I go down to Houston to see family. These next two weekends should be good...a nice dose of family and friends. I really can't wait til next weekend though. My friend and roomie for two years is getting married. It should be fun because I get to see one of my other roomie's and her little boy. It's also in Chicago (All-Star MLB weekend) and good ole H-O-M-E. It's also a chance for me to get a haircut. Gotta love Chicago!!!!!

Anyway, here's today's Friday Five (or technically yesterday's).

1. What were your favorite childhood stories? Anything Mother Goose, the traditional Three Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, etc.

2. What books from your childhood would you like to share with [your] children? Same as above

3. Have you re-read any of those childhood stories and been surprised by anything? Haven't had the chance to re-read childhood stories.

4. How old were you when you first learned to read? 3 years old (I think, my mom said I used to also make up stories to the pictures...how imaginative).

5. Do you remember the first 'grown-up' book you read? How old were you? Don't really remember the first "grown-up" book. Well, I guess most of the books I read in English lit would be considered 'grown-up' and if that's the case, I'll NEVER forget Animal Farm...yuck!!!

Happy July!

Time for another This-or-That Tuesday.

Summer Fun!

1. Lemonade or Ice Cold Beer? Depending on the situation, but Ice Cold Beer.
2. Swimming pool or beach? Again, depending on where I'm at. In Chicago, the beach, everywhere else, pool.
3. Long weekends here & there, or a 2-week vacation? Long weekends here and there, lots of small trips to break up the summer.
4. Destination: Acapulco or Hawaii? Someday, Hawaii.
5. Destination: Mountains or Beach? Beach in the summer.
6. Hotel/motel/B&B or camping? Whatever is cheapest, but preferably a hotel. Although, I haven't been camping in a while.
7. Carefully planned vacation, or play it by ear? Would like it carefully planned, but I always end up playing by ear.
8. Sneakers or sandals? Sandals, feetsies need to breathe.
9. Air-conditioning or fans? Air-conditioning.
10. Concerts in the park or baseball games? Depending on the night, but concerts in the park.

This was a tough one because it all depends on the situation. Summertime fun.

In honor of Summertime...my favorite song for the season brought to you by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince

summer summer summertime
time to sit back and unwind

Here it is the groove slightly transformed
just a bit of a break from the norm
just a little somethin' to break the monotony
of all that hardcore dance that has gotten to be
a little bit out of control it's cool to dance
but what about the groove that soothes that moves romance
give me a soft subtle mix
and if ain't broke then don't try to fix it
and think of the summers of the past
adjust the base and let the alpine blast
pop in my CD and let me run a rhyme
and put your car on cruise and lay back cause this is summertime

summer summer summertime
time to sit back and unwind

school is out and it's a sort of a buzz
a back then I didn't really know what it was
but now I see what have of this
the way that people respond to summer madness
the weather is hot and girls are dressing less
and checking out the fellas to tell 'em who's best
riding around in your jeep or your benzos
or in your Nissan stting on lorenzos
back in Philly we be ou in the park
a place called the plateau is where everybody goes
guys out hunting and girls doing likewise
honking at the honey in front of you with the light eyes
she turn around to see what you beeping at
it's like the summers a natural afradesiac
and with a pen and pad I compose this rhyme
to hit you and get you equipped for the summer time

summer summer summertime
time to sit back and unwind

it's late in the day and I ain't been on the court yet
hustle to the mall to get me a short set
yeah I got on sneaks but I need a new pair
cause basketball courts in the summer got girls there
the temperature's about 88
hop in the water plug just for old times sake
break to ya crib change your clothes once more
cause you're invited to a barbeque that's starting at 4
sitting with your friends cause y'all remincise
about the days growing up and the first person you kiss
and as I think back makes me wonder how
the smell from a grill could spark up nostalgia
all the kids playing out front
little boys messin round with the girls playing double-dutch
while the DJ's spinning a tune as the old folks dance at your family reunion
then six o'clock rolls around
you just finished wiping your car down
it's time to cruise so you head to the summertime hangout

New UnkyMood

I love this Unky Moods site. Those moods are so cute. I will feel broke for a while, or at least until the end of the month...pay day!
Okay the title shows up on my blogger preview, but I looked on my actual blog and it isn't there. Need to figure it out, else I'll just continue to do what I do to get my title to show up.

Testing the Title bar

I like this new blogger layout. I was looking under settings and I found this "Show Title Bar" option. Just testing to see how it looks.

4. What was your worst vacation ever? Worst vacation, okay it wasn't "the worst" but I didn't enjoy it all that much, but Spring Break '97 to the Bahamas wasn't as fun as my best vacation ever (refer to next question).

5. What was your best vacation ever? Best vacation was Spring Break '96 to Mazatlan, Mexico. Fun with my girls and my boys, partying, touristy stuff, spring break fling...crazy fun time. I wish I could post a picture, but for some reason Geocities doesn't like people posting pictures housed on their site on other sites. Still have to scan the pic anyway.

Update

<---Updated some stuff over there. Check it out!

Oh and and update to my "Fun Day at Work" post. The two drunk guys slept off their drunkenness at the hospital and called my manager to apologize for their stupidness. Not really sure how either of them expected to drive. The two bartenders have a week off "to think about their actions." So my manager will be behind the bar on Tuesday and Wednesday. Back to where she started before she became manager. Good Luck!

Luckily class doesn't start til 1:00 tomorrow afternoon. I think I'm going to try to get some sleep now though. Good Night.

Fun day at work

Well tonight was interesting at work. This guy that usually hangs out at the bar I hang out at was up at the restaurant I work at. Of course he was drinking (but many think he may have been more than just drunk). Anyway, so the guy was drinking up at the bar at the restaurant tonight and had just a bit...nah had waaaaaay tooooo much to drink. He got up from his bar stool, started walking, and fell. I think he may have hit his head, but who knows. I hope the bartender at the restaurant doesn't get in trouble. He's a GOOD bartender and waiter, not to mention CUTIE!!! But, who's going to get in trouble because Brian is an idiot???? A good guy =(. Needless to say, we had to call an ambulance and they took him out of there on a stretcher. He is one BIIIIIGGGG boy!!! His friend was taken into police custody, he couldn't even walk out. A little later, I looked out the front and another ambulance pulled up. Seems that the other guy either passed out or started spazzing in the police car and they had to take him away on a stretcher too. STUPID DRUNKS!

You have a pet. Do you find your pet a new home and take the new place, or do you keep your pet and stay put? If I had a pet, I'd keep my pet and stay put, but I have nothing to worry about right now.

Wednesday

Okay, I just checked my blog and the posts are under Thursday, which technically that is correct, but since I haven't gone to bed yet, it is still Wednesday night. Just thought I'd mention that.

GO MAVS

Mavs won yesterday even by overcoming a 17-point deficit. GO MAVS!!! Woo-hoo. Game 6 tomorrow at the AAC. Need to concentrate on class before getting excited about the game. Was very drunk last night...uck!!! Need to leave after Trivia on Tuesday nights, don't need to be hanging out until 2:00am. Rosie needs to get her priorities and shit together!

Get Me Out Of Here

Well, class went HORRIBLE tonight. Only three of five group members were in class and we had to give a small presentation. Needless to say we were not prepared and basically got busted by the professor in front of the class. All I can think was "GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!" We looked foolish and unprepared. We definitely did not look like Graduate students and I am totally embarassed. I feel so sick! Basically we need to get our shit together and I assure you that I'm not going to look stupid ANYMORE!!! (or at least I hope not too).

This-or-That Tuesday

May 27: Personal Habits, Quirks, Routines, etc.

1. Do you prefer silence or do you like background sound (music, TV, etc)? I prefer background sound, I have done homework in front of the TV since I was in grammer school. However, lately if I have to read for class, I need complete silence...finance is hard enough.
2. Bathe/shower in morning or evening? Morning
3. Sleeping in complete darkness, or with a nightlight on? Complete darkness please. I used to sleep with a nightlight, but now I NO light...I'm a vampire...hahaha!
4. Lay out clothes the night before, or just grab what's closest in the morning? Grab what's closest in the morning. Back in the day I used to lay out clothes, but now its just go with how I feel in the morning.
5. Hang up/fold clothes neatly, or just toss them wherever? Hang up/fold clothes neatly if clean, else they go on the floor, on my computer desk chair, the end of the ironing board, etc.
6. Work out at a gym, or at home on your own (or do you not bother with exercise)? When I decide to workout, it's usually at the gym (at least until the membership runs out, then it will be at home or at the apartment complex workout room).
7. Talk on the phone, or via IM/e-mail? Mostly via email, I know people all over the place.
8. Are you usually on time, or late? On time or early
9. Spendthrift or frugal? Spendthrift, or at least try to be.
10. Thought-Provoking Question of the Week: You work with someone who is not in the habit of bathing regularly. The smell seems to be getting worse and worse! Would you: 1. try to do something about it, or 2. try to grin and bear it? If you said 1, what would you do? 1.Make conversation about the smell in the office and if the person doesn't realize it is him or her, then straight up tell him. Actually I'd probably hint at it first with spraying the air, making comments, and then telling the person that he or she STANKS! Luckily I haven't had that problem....knock on wood.

Happy Memorial Day!!!

I was going to play soccer today but ended up doing the family thing. It was good seeing the kids and my cousin. They are such a funny family. Finally gave them Christmas presents from two years ago...hahaha! Anyway, hope everyone is having a fun and safe holiday weekend. Going to the movies tonight...HOPEFULLY!!! =)

Oh No!!!!!!

Dirk went down in today's game. He twisted his knee. My baby got hurt!! I hope the rest of the team steps up and wins the next game for him. SCARY!!! If he can't come back then I can say that the Spurs will win it all. Best of luck to them, but I still must say...GO MAVS!!!!

Go Annika!!

Oh well, she didn't make the cut. But YOU GO GIRL!!!!

I bet half the people at the Colonial don't know anything about golf, they're just there to be seen. Nonetheless, I'm sure Fort Worth is getting the publicity and money it deserves. Whoever invited Annika is a SMART person. No one would care about the Colonial Tournament, but thanks to Annika, people are taking notice. At least she can play with the big boys.

6. Flowers or trees? Flowers
7. Right or left-handed? Right-handed
8. Model trains or dolls/stuffed animals? Stuffed Animals
9. Comedy or drama? Comedy
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: The city of Boston has recently banned smoking in all restaurants and bars. Would you want to see such a law passed in your city/town/country, or not? Dallas passed the smoking ban a few weeks ago. Not sure how it has affected the businesses in the area. All I know is that it doesn't matter to me. I know lots of people who smoke and they just go to the surrounding areas where they can smoke without being harassed. Besides it's up to the smoker whether they want to light up. From what I understand the business just has to post that they are a non-smoking establishment, but the one that gets fined is the smoker not the business. Also, in Plano they passed the smoking ban and a couple months later revoked it as long as the establishment put in some type of air filter system. Good Luck Boston.

Dante's Inferno Test

So I came across this test from another site. What level of hell will I be banished to? Check out my results...

The Dante's Inferno Test has banished you to
the Third Level of Hell!

Here is how you matched up against all the levels:
LevelScore
Purgatory (Repenting Believers)High
Level 1 - Limbo (Virtuous Non-Believers)Moderate
Level 2 (Lustful)Low
Level 3 (Gluttonous)Very High
Level 4 (Prodigal and Avaricious)High
Level 5 (Wrathful and Gloomy)Low
Level 6 - The City of Dis (Heretics)Very Low
Level 7 (Violent)Low
Level 8- the Malebolge (Fraudulent, Malicious, Panderers)Low
Level 9 - Cocytus (Treacherous)Very Low

Third Level of Hell
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the third circle, you find yourself amidst eternal rain, maledict, cold, and heavy. The gluttons are punished here, lying in the filthy mixture of shadows and of putrid water. Because you consumed in excess, you meet your fate beneath the cold, dirty rain, amidst the other souls that there lay unhappily in the stinking mud. Cerebus, a canine monster cruel and uncouth with his three heads and red eyes, dwells in this level. He growls and tears at the damned with his teeth and claws.

Take the Dante's Inferno Hell Test
