The Debut

I wanted to see The Debut when it was in the theaters but never got around to it. Then on my last visit to Chicago, my cousin had the DVD with him. It's so cool to see my people in a movie, being real, representing our heritage and our struggles. Every Filipino-American I know can relate to some or all aspects of the movie. Actually when you think about it, any culture can relate in their search for cultural identity, especially among second-generation immigrants. Although the movie is predictable, a cultureless character in the end finding his true self and appreciating his heritage, it's still good in that it puts our brown faces on a movie and at one point in theaters. Support Asian-American filmmakers!
