Disappointing and Pathetic
Disappointing and Pathetic is how I can describe the Mavericks....mostly Dirk Nowitzki. He is my favorite player at the moment but his performance or lack thereof made me more upset than angry. Granted Golden State had the Mavs number all season, NO EXCUSE...the Mavericks did not show up. How pathetic to be the number one seed, get home court throughout the whole playoffs and go out in the first round. Sad, Sad, Sad. Everyone tried to step it up but putting up bullshit shots and trying for threes that weren't going in?!?!?!? UH HELLO...wake up. The outside shot isn't working, go inside! Where was our defense that worked for us all season...UHMMMM letting that Beirdens in for dunks and all those Warriors easy lay-ups. I would say, maybe next year, but every year they choke more and don't finish. Dirk has to take ALOT of responsibility but there are 4 other guys on that court that didn't pick up his slack. All I can say now is "GO BULLS!"

I HIT A Hole-in-One!!!!
The Golf Digest study provided many great nuggets of information, even breaking the odds down by quality of play:
Tour player making an ace: 3,000 to 1
Low-handicapper making an ace: 5,000 to 1
Average player making an ace: 12,000 to 1
Did you also know that if you make a hole-in-one you buy drinks for everyone?!
Well, yesterday at the Sharky's Spring Shootout, I, yes moi, hit a hole-in-one!!!!! Luckily I didn't have to buy people drinks, but if I had the money I totally would have. It took me a while to take it in, but when it was all over and done with, everyone congratulated me and it all sank in. It was on the 13th hole at Plantation Golf Course in Frisco, TX. Par 3, from the women's tees 76 yards (Men's White tee was at 124 yards). CRAZY but I did it!!!! If you need confirmation, my teammates Glenda, Pete and Evan can all attest to it. Once in a lifetime and it took me three games! Luck I tell you, L-U-C-K!

The Last Dance
And so tonight, Chief Illiniwek performed his last dance. In a way, yes it was a little sad because of the history, but as I watched the halftime performance, I say...it's about time!! It was a big deal. They showed the full halftime performance on ESPNU. As I sat and watched the performance I became less and less proud, yet more and more proud to be an Illini. Less because of the prancing around this guy did, but more because the University is doing the right thing and that was his last performance. All those kids who were crying at the end, do research and learn about Native Americans before you allow some random guy pretend to be the highest ranked official of an Indian tribe.
I am a Fighting Illini through and through, but was never a fan of the Chief as our mascot. When I was at U of I, I admit I was anti-chief mascot. I wore the "Racial Stereotypes Dehumanize" button and t-shirt proudly. Why? Because I heard the stories from Native Americans on how the mascot is degrading to them as a people. I heard the story of a woman who took her kids to a basketball game and as the Chief did his thing at halftime, her daughter cried because she felt they were making fun of something so traditional to them. Instead of honoring the Illini tribe we dress some frat boy in honorary Native American clothing and have him prance on a basketball court or football field during halftime. The Chief, again a person of high honor, is compared to a Wolverine, a Buckeye, a Blue Devil, a Terrapin. Does that make sense? Think about it.
Not to start controversy, because this is my opinion. I love my Alma Mater, I love my Illini. Kudos to the University and those who kept the fight alive.

Chief Illiniwek performs for last time
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - The student who had just performed Chief Illiniwek's last dance stood in a tunnel just off the basketball court, still in costume and grimacing to fight back tears.
After 20 years of pressure from activists who found the University of Illinois mascot offensive, the school did away with Illiniwek and his antics. Dan Maloney, a graduate student who portrays the controversial American Indian mascot, performed for the final time in front of students and fans at a men's basketball game Wednesday night.
"If this is the last time — and I stress if," Maloney said, "I couldn't think of a better way for it to end."
The school's decision led the NCAA to lift sanctions that had barred Illinois from hosting postseason sports since 2005. The NCAA had deemed Illiniwek - portrayed since 1926 by students who cavorted at home football and basketball games in buckskin regalia - an offensive use of American Indian imagery.
But in the eyes of orange-clad students who waited outside Assembly Hall in chilly weather for hours ahead of the game, the decision robbed the school of a piece of its history.
Jonathan Bluenke, a junior from Crystal Lake, said Chief Illiniwek will be missed most at football games, where Illini fans haven't had much to cheer about the past few years.
"If we were down by like 30, people stuck around for the chief," Bluenke said. "Honestly, that's like what you hear in the stands."
One activist who worked to convince the university to get rid of the chief questioned whether a mascot was integral to the experience.
"Does having a mascot or having a flag, does it change the devotion to the team?" asked John McKinn, a Maricopa Indian who is assistant director of academic programming for the school's Native American studies program. "I don't see why it would."
Under the plan announced last week, the university still will be able to use the name Illini, because it's short for Illinois, and the nickname Fighting Illini, because it's considered a reference to the team's competitive spirit, school officials said.
Neither of those ideas sit well with McKinn and others who opposed the chief. They say they want the university to end the use of the names.
The university hasn't said yet whether it will replace the chief with another mascot. Board of trustees Chairman Lawrence Eppley said last week that was a possibility, but said the impetus wouldn't come from the board.
On Wednesday night, few fans seemed interested in a replacement.
As Chief Illiniwek took the floor for the last time, a video montage of chiefs past played on video screens above the court. After the halftime dance, hundreds of students and others in the normally orange-filled arena shed their shirts to reveal black T-shirts worn underneath, mourning the loss of the chief.
"To me the chief is spirit," said Paul Bruns, a retiree who worked for the university for 38 years. "Why did (American Indians) dance? They danced for spirit."

Never thought this day would come....
Chief Illiniwek will be officially retired

URBANA, Ill. (AP) - The University of Illinois will retire its 81-year-old American Indian mascot, Chief Illiniwek, following the last men's home basketball game of the season on Wednesday.
The NCAA in 2005 deemed the buckskin-clad Illiniwek an offensive use of American Indian imagery and barred the university from hosting postseason events.
American Indian groups and others complained for years that the mascot, used since 1926, is demeaning. Supporters of the mascot say it honors the contributions of American Indians to Illinois.
Illinois still will be able to use the name Illini because it's short for Illinois and the school can use the term Fighting Illini, because it's considered a reference to the team's competitive spirit, school officials said. It is unclear if the school will get a new mascot.
"This is an extremely emotional day for people on both sides of the issue, but the decision announced today ends a two-decade-long struggle surrounding Chief Illiniwek on this campus," said athletic director Ron Guenther.
"Personally, as an alumnus and former athlete, I am disappointed. However, as an administrator, I understand the decision that had to be made."
School officials said they received a letter from the NCAA on Thursday that said the school will no longer be banned from hosting postseason events if it drops the mascot and related American Indian imagery. The NCAA's sanctions thus far have prevented Illinois from hosting postseason events in two low-profile sports.
"The Chief Illiniwek tradition inspired and thrilled members of the University of Illinois community for 80 years," board of trustees chairman Lawrence Eppley said Friday. "It was created, carried on and enjoyed by people with great respect for tradition, and we appreciate their dedication and commitment. It will be important now to ensure the accurate recounting and safekeeping of the tradition as an integral part of the history of the university."
On Friday, a Champaign County Circuit Court judge rejected two students' request for a court order banning the university from "capitulating to the NCAA by announcing the retirement of Chief Illiniwek."
